“I don’t sing because I am happy; I am happy because I sing.”
– William James

The voice is a magnificent instrument. You don’t play it, you are it. Due to this, teaching someone to sing is an intimate experience.

Like any art, singing must be practiced in order to take shape and develop. With proper tools, time, patience and hard work, I believe that anyone can do it. I take pride in teaching individuals with an innovative approach that enables them to reach their goals.

Your voice is just that – it is yours. You are the master of your growth and potential. You have a unique and individual sound that can be developed into style, edge and performance. This is what I love to do!

“Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what’s inside of you, to make your soul grow.”
– Kurt Vonnegut

“Christine’s gentle and calm nature allowed me to feel comfortable from day one. For the past two years, she has helped me understand and foster my voice, and has given me the confidence to use it. She encourages me to try things outside of my comfort zone (style, genre, vocal range), which helps develop potential I didn’t know I had. ”

I started voice lessons with Christine in the summer of 2018, after one of my friends recommended her to me.  I have enjoyed singing since I was 7 years old, and had been wanting to do lessons for quite some time, but I was too chicken to actually try, but after a few weeks I decided it was time to take the leap.  From the first day I met Christine I felt comfortable, which was very important to me, because singing in front of people really freaked me out.
She has taught me some amazing tricks along the way, and has upped my confidence to learn to find and love my own singing voice.  Since I started lessons I have been setting goals that I never thought I would with my voice, and even started writing songs.  I highly recommend lessons with Christine, she is amazing at what she does.”

” We consider ourselves very fortunate that we connected with Christine Johnston. Our daughter, then 12 years old, wanted to take singing lessons, having never studied voice. Christine was remarkable. She is, as a teacher, calm, systematic, supportive and demanding. She understood our daughter’s shyness and quickly brought her out of her musical shell. Christine is a superb instructor, both in terms of working on the mechanics of voice and singing and befriending with an enthusiastic teenager, building her confidence, and helping her find joy through song. These days, our daughter never stops singing and approaches music with a deep love and comfort that we attribute to Christine Johnston’s caring and professional instruction. ”

” Brynn has enjoyed her singing lessons with Christine while learning techniques that are helping her become a stronger and more confident singer. Christine is kind and supportive and offers good advice and suggestions for each song that is being learned. Brynn very much enjoys being able to choose her own songs and to work on them at a pace that is suited to her. We are very happy that we have found such a helpful singing teacher! “

” Working with Christine was the first big push into developing, harnessing and pushing my vocal ability. When I met with Christine I didn’t know if I should even bother trying to sing. After that first lesson I knew she could help me reach my goals. Christine forced me to slow the song down and focus on every little note, every detail in how it was delivered which not only helped in stage performance but my personal growth as well inside and outside music. Thanks Christine for helping me push myself and always strive to reach higher limits. ”

“So far, having Christine as a teacher has been super awesome.  She has built my confidence and my vocal strength so much and it continues to grow.  Christine is one of those people that you can instantly click and bond with, she feels like a friend you’ve known for ages, even if you’ve just met her.  Christine is an amazing teacher and person.  I’m really happy to have her as my teacher.”
